Day 2 - 1/15/2008
Education was the buzzword of the 2nd day of the session
At the Georgia Chamber of Commerce’s annual Eggs and Issues breakfast, Governor Perdue unveiled plans to establish VIP recruiters at targeted schools. These individuals would be charged with increasing parent involvement with the goal of keeping at risk youth in school. The Governor also touted the Education Scorecard recently developed by the Governor’s office of Student Achievement as a way to track student achievement in all grade levels throughout the state. The Scorecard can be found at www.goasa.org.
In the afternoon, a bi-partisan group sponsors of HB 939, which would expand Georgia’s voluntary Pre-K program to three year olds, held a press conference. Voices for Georgia's Children will be working to support this bill to provide vital early investment in the education of some of Georgia’s youngest children.
