The House and Senate reconvened after a long weekend today at 1 p.m. The Senate appointed conferees to work on HB 89, "The Gun Bill."   Senators Williams, Carter, and Chance will represent the Senate on the conference committee.   House conferees will be Representatives Bearden, Ralston and Jerguson.
 
The Academic Support Subcommittee of the House Education Committee met with afternoon to discuss several bills.   Committee members debated HB1031 which would require defibrillators in schools. Discussion centered around the importance of the devices, how to fund this requirements, and if it should be “urged” or “required. The committee asked DOE to survey schools and see how many do not have defibrillators and a small group of legislators on subcommittee will work with sponsor (Hembree) to redraft the bill based on findings.  The committee also recommended “Do Pass” on HB 962, “The Education Full Disclosure Act” which would require that local school systems post public notice in a newspaper if they are running a deficit.
