Day 34 - March 20, 2008

Today’s activities centered around the Budget.  Budget decisions are being made rapidly at this point in the session and there is talk that the legislature may really adjourn Sine Die in early April.

The House passed out HB 990, the FY 2009 Budget. The House and Senate also both approved the Supplemental Budget for SFY 2008 and transmitted it immediately to the Governor. He has six days in which to sign the measure or line item veto changes he does not like.

The Senate Judiciary Committee passed HB 1054, the "Children and Families Services Strengthening Act of 2008," today. This Bill creates a agency, the Governor's Office for Children and Families by merging the Children’s Trust Fund, the First Lady’s Children’s Cabinet, and CYCC.  The bill also places the office of Child Fatality review under the supervision of the Child Advocate.
