Child abuse law needs an update

An opinion by Georgia's Office of the Child Advocate head Judge Tom Rawlings is featured in today's AJC (5/5) regarding the state's compliance with federal child abuse laws.

He calls attention to a report identifying Georgia as one of nine states to receive a failing grade for not opening reports of child fatalities or near-fatalities to the public.  This non-compliance could be addressed in several ways, including the adoption of a new model juvenile code as recommended by JUSTGeorgia.
