PeachCare safe, freeze continues

Bridge funding for the PeachCare for Kids Program was officially approved yesterday (5/8) when the governor rescinded his veto of the FY 2007 supplemental budget. After exercising his line veto power and striking the property tax refund, the Governor signed the supplemental budget bill.  The legislation contains $81 million in state funds for PeachCare to temporarily address the federal funding shortfall.

PeachCare remains closed to new enrollment as a result of the March freeze which was approved by the DCH board.  Voices for Georgia’s Children will work throughout the summer with members of Congress to ensure that the federal SCHIP legislation is reauthorized.  We will continue to urge DCH to lift the enrollment freeze and collect the stories of families who have been touched by PeachCare to illustrate the need for health insurance.
